Antigua Sailing Week April 2019

Antigua Sailing Week is scheduled to be held in the last week of April 2019. This regatta is often called “granddaddy” of all the sailing events held in the Caribbean. This event is usually scheduled alongside other events like the Cork Week or the Cowes Week. This year would see the race follow a modern format with races being held off the Falmouth Harbor and all activities would be centered on Nelson’s dockyard that has a rich historic heritage.

Over the years this sailing event has gained prominence and great results have been achieved. For instance, the 2017 Performance Yacht Racing reached the third position in the race; Quokka came second in the race in 2016 while in 2015 EH01 took on the second position.

For those who are contemplating to visit or participate in this sailing week event, they can book their travel plans to Falmouth Harbor, Antigua where transportation means are several; flights come in by major carriers like American Airlines, Virgin Atlantic, US Airlines, Delta, British Airways and Continental Airlines. The venue of the race is a short distance away from the airport, reachable by taxis. As every year, there would be two days of training to help participants acclimatize with the water and prevailing conditions. The training dates this year are 26th to 27th April; the race would start from 28th April and finish on 3rd May 2019.

The participants can take up the race package that includes coaching with an experienced local skipper during the training days and all yacht costs and other race requirements and arrangements are covered in it. With aspects like lunch, safety gear, training costs, and berthing in Falmouth Harbor taken care of in the package, participants can look forward to gearing up for the challenges of the race. They can also enjoy the Caribbean sunshine and local shore events that are organized during this time.
